The Depopulation of Modakeke, Ile-Ife.

Years after the 1997-2001 Modakeke-Ife crisis which left more than 2000 dead, streets abandoned and homes deserted, a few people who had only found temporary residence in other streets and towns return to claim their properties. I take a way around some these neighborhoods taking photographs of what’s left; the epitaph of war. How do you, in photographs, document an internal crisis that occurred more than two decades ago? It’s simple and not so simple. Perhaps, you listen to the stories first. The scarred living people, the houses, the desolate streets and road become the the memorabilia. Proof that there were havens here.
